Pinkwashing Exposed: Seattle Fights Back!
With surgical precision, this documentary dismantles the myth of a ’’rainbow paradise”. It tells the story of activists from Seattle who, in 2012, decided to call the bluff of a branding campaign funded by the Israeli consulate. The film exposes the mechanism of pinkwashing – a strategy through which Israel promotes itself as a LGBT+ rights bastion, effectively diverting attention from nearly eighty years of colonial occupation and the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people unfolding before the eyes of the world.
Directed by Dean Spade and edited by Amy Mahardy, the film is a chronicle of resistance: from exposing the propaganda-driven promotional tour to the cancellation of a key event supported by the Seattle City Council. It is a story of queer solidarity, political responsibility, and a question that continues to resonate with unsettling urgency: why has the desire for equal rights become a tool of cynical PR?
A bold, uncompromising and deeply affecting film that leaves no room to remain neutral.
