Bigfoot Woods

In a small town in northern Minnesota, a teenager grappling with their gender identity and their father accidentally capture on camera something in the woods that looks suspiciously like Bigfoot. When the sensational footage spreads through the local community, the two become heroes in a place that readily embraces mythical monsters yet still struggles to accept someone’s true identity.

The story is based on the real life of the writers, Bruce and Abel Pavalon. They spend every summer in the area at a family cabin and insisted that the film reflect the area they call their second home.

Director Elizabeth Chatelain plays with genre conventions and small‑town satire, serving up a subversive coming‑of‑age tale, parental love, and social hypocrisy. With humour, tenderness, and a sharp edge, the film poses uncomfortable questions about acceptance, mental health, and the limits of empathy. Because perhaps the real monster isn’t the one lurking in the woods at all…
