Pretty Red Dress

In a society dominated by patriarchal norms, men have to fit into strict patterns of masculinity. For black men, the pressure is even higher – not only are they expected to suppress their emotions because of their gender, but they also face the added restrictions due to cultural and social marginalisation.

Travis balances on the fine line between social expectations and his own desire for freedom, while his struggle becomes a battleground for love, identity and dignity. His expression defies the gender binarism, and every decision he makes puts his relationships with his family and the outside world to the test.

“Pretty Red Dress” breaks the mould by teaching that true identity needs no definition and how authenticity is the greatest act of courage.
