Extremely Unique Dynamic

Ryan and Danny are childhood friends who, before Ryan leaves for Canada where his fiancée is waiting for him, decide to spend their last weekend together making a film as a memento of their friendship.

Instead of a nostalgic montage of home recordings, they opt for chaotic, low-budget queer indie cinema. The filmmakers, who also take on leading roles, create a meta film about two boys making a film about two boys making a film about two boys making a film about two boys….

During the tumultuous creative process, Danny reveals his orientation to Ryan, which becomes an echo of the queer identity of the characters they play.

The film is an energetic, humorous tale of friendship, love and art-making. All of this is shown through a queer and Asian-American prism, which brings a unique perspective to the story.

It is not only a story about relationships between people, but also about the joy of creation. ‘Extreme Relationship’ celebrates independent cinema and the childlike joy of creativity, reminding us that art can be both a form of play and a deep reflection on life.
