My Father Is My Mother’s Brother

Tolik is an artist in the underground, queer scene in Kyiv. He’s also a stepfather to a young Katia, a daughter of his sister – Anya, who can’t take care of the child due to mental illness. The film by Vadym Ilkov has been recognized for its innovation at Visions du Réel Festival. The production, with a melodic smoothness, combines moments of extreme loneliness and family intimacy, of emptiness and creative focus, of great burden and daily joy of life. Through its authentic depiction, this bold, yet subtle portrait of an extraordinary family, corresponds with personal and artistic sincerity of its protagonists.

The entire income from the sold tickets will be donated to the Ukrainian filmmakers, who document the situation in Ukraine that faces the Russian invasion.
